It takes approx. 3 minutes to read this article

Is the only way to treat tonsillitis an antibiotic? How to fight the disease faster? What will help relieve the troublesome symptoms? Are home remedies effective in the treatment of angina? Answers to these questions can be found in the following article.

Angina – or severe inflammation of the tonsils and mucous membrane of the throat – can be caused by viruses, bacteria or fungi. It is an infectious disease transmitted by droplet or direct contact. Initially its symptoms may resemble an ordinary upper respiratory tract infection, but tonsillitis should not be underestimated – this disease carries a risk of dangerous complications. How to recognize it? How to fight the disease? Can home remedies cope with angina?

How is angina diagnosed?

Although the first symptoms of this disease may resemble a harmless cold, as the disease develops we will notice symptoms, which will clearly indicate whether we are dealing with angina. We can recognize it by the following symptoms:

  • intense sore throat,
  • elevated temperature,
  • enlarged and reddened tonsils,
  • petechiae on the palate,
  • white and yellow plaque on the tonsils,
  • difficulty swallowing,
  • pain in the lymph nodes,
  • runny nose,
  • muscle pain.

Types of tonsillitis

Depending on the location of the inflammation are distinguished:

  • tonsillopharyngeal tonsillitis,
  • tonsillopharyngitis,
  • tonsillopharyngitis.

Depending on the location of the infection, the course of the disease may look slightly different. However, most of the symptoms listed above will accompany each type of tonsillitis

Treatment of tonsillitis

Most cases of tonsillitis are caused by streptococcus. This is a type of tonsillitis called purulent tonsillitis. With this type of infection, you will need to visit your doctor and take an antibiotic. However, in addition to drug therapy, we can also use home remedies, which can accelerate the eradication of the disease, relieve pain and other annoying discomforts.

Home remedies for tonsillitis

To relieve the annoying pain and discomfort during the disease try the following ways:

  • rinsing the throat with special pharmacy solutions or herbal mixtures, such as sage or chamomile;
  • neck compresses – warm, dry compresses will help soothe a sore throat;
  • hydration – especially with high fever and sweating, adequate hydration is especially important, so drink plenty of water, herbal teas or freshly squeezed fruit or vegetable juices;
  • drinking rosehip tea with raspberry juice – this drink has large amounts of vitamin C and substances that support the immune system; drink it warm as often as possible;
  • drinking milk with butter and honey – warm of course! This concoction can also provide relief from illness;
  • use of ginger, lemon, garlic and onions – these versatile products will help with colds, flu, infections and tonsillitis; try to consume them as often as possible; add them to meals, make syrup from onions, a mixture of ginger with honey and lemon;
  • easy to digest or liquid diet – most often recommended in case of angina;
  • rest – above all, do not strain yourself, rest, lie in bed and try to isolate yourself from other household members so as not to infect them.

Depending on the treatment methods used, tonsillitis usually lasts from one to two weeks.
