Fans of world cinema can expand their vacation plans with trips to unique locations from their favorite movies. Which locations are worth seeing? We give you a hint!

Greece

Fans of Abba and the cult musicals “Mamma Mia” should definitely visit the Greek locations where the unforgettable scenes from the movies were filmed. Nowadays in many offers of travel agencies you can buy special tours in the footsteps of the popular musical. Agios Ioannis, which is a small church dedicated to St. John, should not be missed on the route. It was the road to the church, located on a high rock, that provided one of the final scenes of the film, where Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan acted out an emotional scene singing Abba’s song “The winner takes it all.” Another highlight is the Kastani beach on the island of Skopelos, where mostly younger characters played in scenes to the songs “Lay all your love on me” and “Does your mother know.”

Scotland

Interesting film sites can also be found on the map of Scotland. Scenes for such films as “Braveheart,” “Prometheus,” “47 Ronin” and “The da Vinci Code” were shot in this picturesque country. One of the most popular film locations, however, is the viaduct appearing in the Harry Potter film series. The Glenfinnan Viaduct was one of the most iconic features of the Hogwarts Express route to the magical castle of the School of Magic and Wizardry. The viaduct is located in the northern part of Scotland, about 155 miles from Edinburgh. The best view of the bridge is from the surrounding hills, but it’s a good idea to get a good seat just minutes before the train is scheduled to pass. This is because fans of the series by author J.K. Rowling can enjoy a ride on a special steam locomotive resembling the one used in the film. It usually appears on the route 4 times during the day, so the chances of a perfect view are slim.

New York

One of the most cinematic cities in the history of world cinema. Fans of TV series will find many locations from their favorite productions, such as “Friends,” “Sex in the City” and “Gossip Girl.” New York can also be explored in the footsteps of favorite movies. On a movie tour, you shouldn’t miss the Metropolitan Museum Of Art, where scenes for “Ocean’s 8” or “Maid In Manhattan” were filmed, the Plaza Hotel known from such productions as “The Great Gatsby” or “Kevin Alone In New York,” Katz’s Delicatessen restaurant with a marked table, where the characters from “When Harry Met Sally” sat, or the world’s most popular Grand Central train station, where scenes for “Men in Black,” “The Avengers” and “North by Northwest” were shot.

London

Britain’s capital is an equally cinematic city. Walking through the streets of London, you can follow the route of James Bond or Sherlock Holmes. Fans of these productions should definitely see Westminster Bridge, 10 Downing Street, the London Eye or Big Ben. Fans of romantic comedies will also find something for themselves. The most landmark is the Notting Hill district, known from the film of the same name, or Piccadilly Circus square, which appeared in the movie “Bridget Jones’s Diary.” Harry Potter fans on a visit to London, in addition to popular downtown locations like Millennium Bridge, should also visit Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter, where they will visit the largest museum of the film series.
