It is used to support the body on an energetic level by stimulating specific points in the body with special needles. Why should you undergo acupuncture treatments? Read in our material!
Acupuncture – what is it?
Acupuncture is a method of treating various conditions by pricking the patient’s body with needles. It originated in traditional Chinese medicine and is based on the belief that by acting on energy, we affect matter, and therefore the body. The acupuncturist stimulates specific energy points located on the meridians (there are 12 of them), considered channels through which Qi (chi) energy circulates in the human body. Thus, it restores balance in the flow of this energy, whose stagnation, excess or deficiency contributes to the onset of various diseases.
Acupuncture – what purpose does it serve?
Acupuncture aims to balance the vital energy circulating throughout our body through the so-called meridians, which overlap with other systems. The latter are linked to various internal organs. Any malaise on their part indicates a disturbed flow or blockage of this energy. They may also indicate a deficiency or excess of Qi. Acupuncture stimulates meridians at specific points, restoring the free flow of energy, which helps restore health.
Acupuncture for functional disorders
While acupuncture remains powerless against organic disorders such as heart attack or cancer, it is a very helpful tool for functional disorders such as allergies, sinusitis, rheumatic pain, digestive disorders, skin diseases, hypertension and incontinence. This is just a modest list of ailments that a qualified acupuncturist can remedy.
Acupuncture for stress
An acupuncturist knows the importance of energy balance in the body. When you can’t manage stress effectively, it will create a kind of energy knot in the body. The therapist’s job is to find these knots and unblock them – primarily at the level of the head, neck and back.
Acupuncture during pregnancy
Acupuncture also provides extraordinary relief during pregnancy. First of all, it relieves nausea, which usually occurs during the first three months of pregnancy. These occur when there are disturbances in the energy flow in the two meridians of the liver/gallbladder and stomach/spleen.
Pregnant women also often complain of circulatory disorders that manifest as swollen legs or hemorrhoids. On an energetic level, this indicates an excess of yin energy in the body. In this case, the acupuncturist will pay special attention to the points responsible for the spleen and kidneys.
Finally, acupuncture prepares the perineum and cervix for childbirth. Stimulating the points on either side of the tailbone two to three weeks before delivery relaxes the perineum, while stimulating the point between the first and second toes on the sole of the feet lowers the pain threshold and speeds up cervical dilation.
